For endovascular abdominal aneurysm repair (EVAR), thoracic aneurysm repair and precutaneous aortic valve placement, the insertion of a large diameter arterial sheath in the femoral artery is necessary. In the past years we gradually changed our technique from a surgical cut-down in all patients to a precutaneous technique with the use of the Prostar XL device in the majority of patients. The advantages of this less invasive technique are increased patient comfort directly after the procedure and diminished dependence of anesthetics. The following educational video describes the typical placement and removal of the Prostar XL device.
