Marking 40 years of angioplasty - EuroIntervention at the centre of interventional cardiology!
EuroIntervention at the centre of interventional cardiology! Consult the latest edition of EuroIntervention Journal - marking 40 years of angioplasty.
As president of the ESC and a clinical cardiologist myself, it is my pleasure to introduce this special edition of EuroIntervention commemorating forty years of angioplasty. Published at the same time as ESC Congress 2017 in Barcelona - which is also showcasing this important milestone - EuroIntervention highlights the singular achievement of Andreas Grüntzig, the German cardiologist who first developed successful balloon angioplasty to treat stenosed coronary arteries. But this special edition of the journal goes far beyond that. It captures the advances and collaboration by specialists from around the world that have marked the development of cardiology over decades. It has been an inspiring international effort that has resulted in millions of people leading longer, healthier lives.
President, European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2016-2018
