PCRonline has a new Editor-in-Chief!
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Davide Capodanno as Editor-in Chief of PCRonline.
An associate professor at the University of Catania, where he received his MD and PhD degrees, and an interventional cardiologist at Ferrarotto Hospital, Azienda “Policlinico-Vittorio Emanuele” in Catania, Italy, Dr Capodanno completed his research training at the University of Florida, Jacksonville, FL, USA. His areas of interest and expertise include coronary revascularisation, drug-eluting stents and scaffold technologies, antithrombotic pharmacotherapy, trial design and biostatistics.
Those involved or who have participated in EuroPCR or in our professional association the European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (EAPCI) are well acquainted with the breadth of Davide Capodanno’s work, as well as his commitment to furthering the values of our specialty through education, outreach and the exchange of clinical experience. Past Chair of the New Initiatives for Young Interventionalists of the EAPCI, Dr Capodanno currently serves as the Co-Chair of the EAPCI Scientific Documents and Initiatives committee. A member of the Working Group on Thrombosis of the ESC and the Educative Solutions Research Group Programme of PCR, Davide Capodanno serves on several international journals, as Deputy Editor of EuroIntervention, Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal, Section Editor of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and Editorial Consultant of JACC Cardiovascular Interventions. Dr Capodanno has also worked on textbooks as well as authoring more than 300 manuscripts published in peer-reviewed literature. He is the recipient of multiple investigator awards for cardiology research.
PCRonline, launched in 2002 as an integral part of the PCR family of courses and educative programmes, was created as a vehicle to share knowledge, experience and practice in interventional cardiovascular medicine. Dr Capodanno will be succeeding our distinguished colleague, Prof Alec Vahanian, who has chaired the Editorial Committee of our website since 2010. It was under Prof Vahanian’s thoughtful and inclusive leadership that we saw PCRonline affirm its position as one of the online references for the interventional cardiology community with over 384,000 visits in 2016 alone.
Today, almost twenty years after it was founded, the role of PCRonline is more critical than ever before in ensuring the healthy and continued development of our specialty. Faced with the rapid evolution of devices and treatments, the practice of interventional cardiology demands rigorous attention to training, education and innovations, while keeping abreast of the changing relationship with industry while facing the challenge of offering the best possible cardiovascular care that respects local healthcare systems and restricted budgets.
It is the role of the Editor-in-Chief of PCRonline to ensure that this interactive platform offers the clarity and guidance that our visitors need, proposing to the community the most valid content from PCR courses, along with information, commentaries about news in interventional cardiology and a diverse selection of editorial and educational content.
With his rare combination of clinical knowledge and academic expertise, Associate Professor Davide Capodanno is eminently qualified to lead PCRonline, renewing our dedication to furthering the practice of interventional cardiology and influencing the present and future of our specialty.
