Experienced clinical cardiologist and pioneer in the interventional cardiology practice in South Africa. Additional interest in complex pacemaker implants. Recently has pioneered Transcutaneous Aortic Valve Implantation(TAVI) in South Africa and currently one of the most experienced operators in this field.

Passion for post-graduate education in various roles and Director of Crossroads Institute (South Africa) and convenor of a number of national/international cardiology congresses. Frequent Faculty Member of International Interventional Cardiology Programs including EuroPCR and TCT. Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of EuroPCR.

Founding Chairman of South African Society of Cardiovascular Intervention (SASCI).

Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology.

Enjoy interacting at a personal level with his patients with a particular empathy for elderly patients and the problems they face with cardiovascular disease.

Founder of the Vergelegen Heart Unit in Somerset West, South Africa in 1997 and was joined by Dr. Mark Abelson in 2002. The Heart Unit has gone on to being one of the very best cardiac intervention units in the country, incorporating only the highest international standards and the very latest technology into every day care.

Dr. Mabin have developed special skills in "niche" areas and specialises in bi-ventricular pacemakers, closing congenital "holes in the heart" in adults and recently pioneered transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVI ) in South Africa for patients deemed too frail to undergo routine open heart aortic valve replacements.

Joined the Advisory Board for the Stent Save a Life Initiative in 2017.
