Improving Heart Function (iHF): Driving trans-disciplinary innovation in heart failure care
Improving Heart Function (iHF) is a scientific and educational initiative which aims to address the complexity of heart failure care with a trans-disciplinary vision and high-level clinical resources.

What is Improving Heart Function (iHF)?
The Improving Heart Function (iHF) initiative is a trans-disciplinary, innovative, and educational project dedicated to promoting comprehensive care for heart failure patients across all specialties. From interventional cardiologists to cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists to nephrologists, electrophysiologists to nurses, all healthcare professionals committed to improving the management of heart failure share the same goal: optimising treatment strategies and improving patient outcomes. iHF aims to accompany them in these objectives by focusing on two main areas:
- Healthcare management, by enhancing both pharmacological and device-based strategies, to implement effectively guideline-directed medical therapies (GDMT)
- Patient management, with a high focus on patient selection and risk stratification through imaging and biomarkers, especially in patients with implanted devices.
iHF 2026: A new Course highlighting new perspectives on heart failure care
The first edition of the Improving Heart Function Annual Course will take place in Madrid on 20-21 March 2026. Be ready to learn from dynamic formats promoting practical and cross-specialty decision making: case-based discussions, “How should I treat?” and drug & device synergy algorithm sessions. Two clinical perspectives will be highlighted:
- A patient-centered approach, aiming to focus on real-life patient care and daily practice, enhancing diagnostic processes, therapeutic decisions and multidisciplinary coordination.
- A therapy-centred approach, with an emphasis on drugs and device-based therapies and their combination for improved patient outcomes.
