We CARE: a joint initiative by PCR and Stent – Save a Life!
By empowering all stakeholders – healthcare professionals, national authorities and the media, the advocacy programme aims to restore patients’ faith in pursuing timely medical care is both necessary and safe.
In line with its commitment to serving the needs of each individual patient by helping the cardiovascular community to share knowledge, experience and practice, and inspired by the challenging global pandemic of COVID-19, PCR is proud to have joined up with Stent – Save a Life! to launch the We CARE advocacy programme.

Sounding the alarm, to remind patients that time is of the essence
The group of renowned interventional cardiologists and researchers worldwide aim to spread the word all around the globe: when in the slightest doubt, patients must immediately call a doctor or go the hospital.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, too many patients are still staying away and declining procedures or follow-up appointments.
The consequences of late presentation are dramatic: many that survive frequently have a drastically reduced quality of life, and the potential burden for the healthcare system is unforeseeable.
“We CARE aims to rebuild patients’ trust and help stakeholders provide appropriate and timely cardiac care through information, education and training.” | William Wijns, PCR Chairman
“Not seeking medical attention in a cardiac emergency will almost certainly damage the heart, while the risk of contracting COVID-19 in a controlled healthcare environment is very much lower.” | Christoph K. Naber, Stent – Save a Life! Chairman
All stakeholders are being called upon to help share the word
To enable healthcare professionals to play an active part in the global awareness campaign, We CARE is already making media kits available, including posters and flyers.
The new initiative will also provide tools and guidelines to help them prevent procedure postponement, encourage them to accelerate the implementation of telemedicine, and ensure the preparedness of healthcare systems. The support of public authorities and the media is also essential. This message and further calls for action are being shared with the worldwide interventional cardiovascular community in a dedicated Programme slot of EuroPCR 2021.
In the meantime, more information about We CARE can be found on the dedicated website.
