How PCR trains educators!
Discover ViTAL® training: where clinicians learn how to deliver high-quality post-graduate education!
At PCR, certain clinicians receive special ViTAL® training to learn how to facilitate sessions in a way that gives participants a practical, relevant and immersive educational experience. This unique approach to postgraduate education substantiates the excellence of PCR Courses. It results from Prof. Jean Marco’s interest in advancing knowledge transmission within continuous medical education, and it is rooted at the very core of PCR’s DNA.
The dedicated training of educators, unmatched elsewhere, is what truly differentiates PCR Courses from other meetings. It ensures the sessions are highly interactive, put participants at the centre of their learning experience, and enable them to find shared outcomes to common difficulties. ViTAL® training also rewards those who follow it with precious pedagogic skills for their other activities, such as when teaching at university or delivering presentations at meetings.
ViTAL® = Visionary Transformative Adult Learning
- Visionary, because it is about applying educative processes that help create a better future for patients and clinicians
- Transformative, because it is designed to help clinicians transform their understanding and apply this in their daily practice
- Adult, because it recognises that post-graduate clinicians attending educational seminars have a significant contribution to make
- Learning, because the focus is on participative education

PCR ViTAL® training: what, when, why…

What?
ViTAL® is a recognised PCR trademark. PCR’s educators are trained to help participants structure their reasoning and cultivate critical faculties, through exchange and the sharing of experience
Who for?
Clinicians who join the teams who build, develop, deliver and evaluate PCR’s educational activities.

Which roles?
Those who follow the training programme become the session facilitators, operators, chairpersons, speakers, media drivers, LIVE control desks and React@PCR moderators who reinforce PCR educational activities
When?
ViTAL® training programmes usually takes place:
- For facilitated sessions, prior to each PCR Course (for approx. 10-30 persons)
- For LIVE sessions, once a year (for approx. 20 persons)

How?
Each ViTAL® training programme is built using a coherent and logical structure, according to the group’s needs and experience. It carefully combines case-based educational material and interactive processes that implement the participants’ own knowledge and experience. Moreover:

- Facilitated sessions: facilitators learn how to move about the room, interact, ask the right questions and capture audience attention, structure and simplify explanations, etc.
- LIVE sessions: operators and chairpersons are coached on PCR's procedural framework for LIVE demonstration. This ensures priority for the patient, while maintaining maximum interaction between them for the benefit of the audience
Methods for training include role-playing, video replay, practice presentations…
Who by?
Once trained by a team of coaches, educators are anonymously assessed by two of their peers during PCR Courses. They receive valuable feedback on their teaching skills (not on the content) in order to continually enhance quality

Why?
The overall aim of ViTAL® training is to contribute to the improvement of patient care, by ensuring educational needs are met through a highly-immersive learning experience.
