Summary

This session provides a comprehensive overview of device-based pulmonary embolism treatment. Experts will discuss the clinical problem of pulmonary embolism, the importance of forming a dedicated team, and the available devices and their characteristics. The session will also feature case-based discussions on the use of catheter-directed lysis, computer-assisted vacuum thrombectomy, and large-bore aspiration thrombectomy in patients with intermediate-high risk, high-risk, and shock presentations. Attendees will gain insights into patient selection, safe delivery of treatment, and the prediction and avoidance of complications.

Learning Objectives

  • To discuss device-based pulmonary embolism treatment in patients with intermediate high-risk, high-risk and shock
  • To learn how to select patients and deliver safe treatment
  • To learn how to predict and avoid complications with pulmonary embolism interventions

Presentations available when logged in:

  • What is the clinical problem of pulmonary embolism and why would we need devices?
  • Setting up a pulmonary embolism programme – What you need and how to form a team
  • What devices are currently available? Basic characteristics, core data and landmark trials in progress
  • Catheter-lysis – Devices, protocols in intermediate high-risk
  • Computer-assisted vacuum thrombectomy - Intermediate high-risk patients with high bleeding risk
