Transcatheter versus surgical aortic valve replacement in patients with severe aortic stenosis and small aortic annuli: A randomized clinical trial (the VIVA Trial)

Reported from TCT 2023

Luis Ortega-Paz interviews Josep Rodés-Cabau on the results of the VIVA trial which he presented at TCT Congress 2023 in San Francisco.

The results of this trial suggest that both transcatheter and surgical aortic valve replacement represent a valid alternative for treating patients with aortic stenosis and small aortic annulus. Treatment selection should be individualised according to baseline characteristics, additional anatomical risk factors, and patient preference. Early and late (2-year) clinical outcomes showed no significant differences between TAVR and SAVR.

The trial manuscript was published in Circulation.
