Practical information

  • Centre: Hospital Del Mar, Barcelona, Spain
  • Research activities of the Host Centre: Research activities are primarily focused on complex coronary interventions, including calcified lesions, CTO, and the use of DCB, as well as LAAC and post-procedural management. The unit actively participates in national and international research projects and clinical registries.
  • Experience in hosting fellows: Our institution has maintained a dedicated Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Programme for more than 10 years, providing advanced training in complex coronary interventions. Over the last two years, the programme has expanded to host two coronary intervention fellows per year, reflecting the growing educational and clinical activity of the unit. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in clinical research activities and presentations at national and international congresses.

  • Education activities of the Host Centre: Education is at the core of our program. We organize two dedicated workshops each year — one local and one international — covering complex coronary intervention, intracoronary imaging, and plaque-modification techniques. Fellows actively participate in these events and interact with leading international experts.

  • Annual performance:
    • Equipped with two state-of-the-art catheterization laboratories
    • 800–900 percutaneous coronary interventions annually: complex coronary anatomy including severe calcification, bifurcation disease, left main interventions, CTO, high-risk PCI.
    • 40% DCB
    • 40% Intravascular imaging (IVUS and OCT)
    • Access to contemporary plaque-modification technologies.

  • Additional Information: We are a young, dynamic, and highly motivated team with a strong commitment to education, innovation, and clinical excellence. We are passionate about welcoming fellows from different backgrounds and believe that fellowship training is a mutually enriching experience. Our goal is not only to teach advanced interventional techniques but also to learn from our fellows, fostering an environment of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and continuous professional development.
