The centre contributes to the clinical, research and educational opportunities available through the fellowship network. Host Centre placements are allocated according to available grants and programme criteria.

Practical information

  • Centre: Institut Alain Cribier, Rouen, France.
  • Experience in hosting fellows: The Institut Alain Cribier has been welcoming fellows for nearly 30 years. Fellowships are mainly focused on interventional cardiology, including coronary angioplasty and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), with exposure to high-volume structural heart interventions.

The programme is designed for physicians wishing to develop practical skills, clinical reasoning, procedural planning, and case-based decision-making in coronary and structural interventions.

  • Research activities of the Host Centre: The Institut Alain Cribier develops research and innovation programmes dedicated to valvular heart disease and structural heart interventions. Main research axes include: optimisation of existing transcatheter valve therapies; development and evaluation of new therapeutic solutions for aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve disease; translational and clinical research using imaging, artificial intelligence, biomarkers, genetics and data science; patient pathways, screening, prevention and earlier detection of valvular disease; outcomes research, registries and real-world data; and collaborative academic / MedTech projects within national and international networks.

The Institute is connected with the CHU de Rouen, Universite de Rouen Normandie and Inserm, and aims to accelerate patient access to innovation in structural heart disease.

  • Education activities of the Host Centre: The Centre has a longstanding commitment to education and has hosted fellows for nearly 30 years. In addition to fellowships in coronary angioplasty and TAVI, the team organises dedicated TAVI workshops twice a year. These workshops combine live cases, expert lectures, interactive discussions, case-based learning, CT-scan analysis and simulation-based training. The example programme includes step-by-step transfemoral TAVI reasoning, live cases from Rouen and partner centres, sessions on TAVI complications, CT planning, femoral puncture, vascular closure devices, and hands-on simulation from screening to valve implantation.

  • Annual performance ✅ :
    • The Host Centre performs a high volume of coronary and structural interventions each year, including approximately 1,000 coronary angioplasties, 500 transfemoral TAVI procedures, 50 mitral or tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair procedures (MitraClip/TriClip), and 70 PFO or ASD closures.
    • The Centre has also recently performed JenaValve and EVOQUE procedures.
