In remembrance of Eduardo Sousa

Our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of  Eduardo Sousa who passed away this March.

The PCR Community mourns the passing of Eduardo Sousa, Brazilian interventional cardiologist best known for having carried out the first in-human implants of a sirolimus Drug Eluting Stent in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in 1999. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Dr Sousa’s work, based on a technology that was seen as revolutionary at the time, laid the foundation for DES therapy. He was also the first president of the Brazilian Society of Interventional Cardiology and Haemodynamics  (SBHCI).
