Entrapped or embolised devices retrieved by trapping guide extension catheter technique

Coronary balloon fracture complications

Herein we present a retrieval method involving a guide extension catheter combined with a snare, which could be attempted as a bail-out strategy. It has not always been proven as successful to rescue a fractured balloon. However, may be a valid option in the event of a undeflatable balloon.

[Update content]

If a part of the wire fragment is still in the guiding catheter, it could be removed entrapping it between an inflated balloon in the guiding catheter and the wall of catheter. If the fragment inside the guiding catheter is shorter, it’s possible to advance a guiding catheter extension.
