Calcified lesions: caught between a rock and a hard place

Session comprising selected GulfPCR-GIM 2025 clinical case submissions

Facilitators: O. Altamimi, A. Alsulaimi

Summary

This session focuses on the challenges of treating calcified coronary lesions, emphasizing the use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided rotablation and the limitations of rotatripsy in complex bifurcation angioplasty. It covers innovative strategies including off-label Shockwave lithotripsy in stented lesions, management of calcified nodules, and approaches to tough, tortuous calcium, providing valuable insights into overcoming procedural complexities and complications such as vessel perforations.

Presentations available when logged in:

  • IVUS-guided rotablation in a calcified left anterior descending artery with myocardial bridge
  • When rotatripsy failed to deliver in a complex calcified left main bifurcation angioplasty
  • Tough tortuous calcium: spoilt for choices!
  • Pushing boundaries: off-label use of Shockwave lithotripsy in stented calcified lesion
  • The calm after the storm: a perforation galore
  • Sailing in stormy weather: a calcified nodule in a tortuous circumflex
