PCR London Valves 2018 - Editorial from the Course Directors
Obtain a practical insight of the 3-day Course written by the Board Members
Welcome to the world-leading learning platform in valvular interventions!
It is a great pleasure to count you among the rapidly growing number of participants who trust in the quality of the learning experience offered at PCR London Valves. We are thrilled to welcome practitioners from over 70 different countries in this special year, which marks the 15th anniversary of the very first mitral edge-to-edge procedures.
Our three days of learning and sharing with colleagues from around the world take off with a dynamic Sunday focused on innovation and imaging. As Imaging Day continues to evolve, we thrive to provide you with highly educational and hands-on content based on the latest technologies.
The imaging focus will endure throughout the rest of the Course, particularly at the Imaging Learning Centre where a new approach to the appreciation of 3D cardiac anatomy and its application in structural intervention will be promoted. For the 9th edition of this valve-focused Course we have prepared one of the most ambitious programmes to date, articulated around three tracks including TAVI, Mitral/Tricuspid and Imaging.
We were delighted to receive hundreds of submitted cases of remarkable quality during the Calls for Submissions. Those we have reviewed and selected will be presented in interactive sessions over the next three days, allowing each of you to take an active part as well as to learn with and from your peers.
Among many key sessions in this years’ Programme, it is worth mentioning the SPOTLIGHT on emerging European MITRA- FRANCE RCT data concerning mitral edge-to-edge repair. This session on Monday morning will particularly highlight the implications of the findings for guidelines and everyday practice. The Keynote lecture on Tuesday morning by US colleague D. Cohen is also one you won’t want to miss, as it will tackle the important socio-ecomomic implications of rapidly expanding programmes of transcatheter valve interventions.
As always, this year’s programme features a large number of LIVE demonstrations, showcasing both routine and challenging aortic, mitral and tricuspid cases. The principal educational emphasis of these particular sessions will grant attendees with valuable and practical takeaways for them to bring back to their own cathlabs. Special dedicated sessions carefully constructed for Nurses and Allied Professionals (who play a vital role within the Heart Team) will be held on Tuesday.
Once again, the Course offers a two-level curriculum, including essential learning sessions on the one hand - intended for those practitioners who are just entering the valvular field, and applied learning sessions on the other hand - which focus on more challenging cases and procedures.
With this in mind, a large volume of Late- breaking data has been included in the 2018 curriculum. A major novelty in the innovation and training area is the integration of the HeartLab, an educational concept providing hands-on simulator and case-based training. Developed by the Zurich Mitral Valve Meeting, the HeartLab is one of many ventures arising from the newly established collaboration between the MVM meeting (directed by Professor Francesco Maisano) and PCR in a drive to reinforce the mitral and tricuspid programme tracks at PCR London Valves. Finally, the Industry-led Training Village will host numerous practical sessions focused on innovative technologies. Last but not least, innovation will play a foremost role in this new edition of the Course.
Keep in mind that this edition also offers a digital experience, with online and in-app coverage before, during and after the Course. We sincerely hope that these three days represent a fulfilling learning experience and a remarkable opportunity to make fruitful encounters with peers from different backgrounds. Once more, we wish you a warm welcome!
