
Chaim Lotan
Professor Chaim Lotan was born in Hadera, Israel in 1952. He completed medical training at the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School in 1979 and concluded his specialization in Cardiology in 1987. Between 1987-89 he held a Clinical and Research fellowship in Interventional Cardiology and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance in the Cardiovascular Division of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama, USA.
In 1995 he also founded the Israeli Working Group for Interventional Cardiology and served as its Secretary General for 4 years. In 1996 he was appointed Director of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterization in Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem and has been largely responsible for its international reputation till today.
Prof. Lotan was appointed as the director of the Heart Institute in Hadassah University Hospital in Ein Kerem, Jerusalem in 2000 (current position) and later was appointed to the David and Rose Orzen Chair in Cardiology at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Medicine. In 2009 he received the appointment of Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of Medicine.
Prof. Lotan is the chairman of the Ministry of Health Committee for Certification & Licensing of Coronary Stents in the Israel and has been in addition the principle investigator in many of the leading studies in interventional cardiology and coronary stents, with many publications in this field. He served as President of the Israel Heart Society from May 2011-April 2013. A prominent figure in the world of interventional cardiology, Prof. Lotan has been involved in a number of biomedical innovative ventures and serves as Medical Officer/Advisor in several start-up medical technology companies in the fields of interventional cardiology and cardiac imaging.
Professor Lotan and Professor Rafael Beyar together instigated in 2006 and have since organized annually the scientific meeting "Innovation in Cardiovascular Intervention" (“ICI”), the leading international congress on this important and timely subject.
He has instigated and, together with Dr. Yaakov Nahmias, built the interdisciplinary academic track of Biodesign Innovation at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in conjunction with the Hadassah Medical Center.
