ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)

Latest STEMI content in interventional cardiology - research, practice, and education

Treating STEMI brings into play a series of clinical and organisational protocols in constant evolution. Today, patients presenting with STEMI are best treated by early reperfusion strategies of which primary PCI is the preferred method. Keep up-to-date on the role of adjunctive pharmacotherapy, advances in imaging techniques and the use of invasive imaging and functional assessment. Tools, devices and techniques as well as complications, such as the different types of vascular access or bleeding risk can be found here as well…

Timing and predictors of definite stent thrombosis in comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention and therapeutic hypothermia (ST-OHCA study)

09 Aug 2022

The ST-OHCA study is a single centre prospective study investigating the incidence, timing and predictors of definite stent thrombosis in comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) undergoing immediate PCI and therapeutic hypothermia.

Radial versus femoral access in ACS patients undergoing complex PCI is associated with consistent bleeding benefit and no excess of risk

18 Jul 2022

In this paper, the authors investigated the comparative efficacy and safety of TRA versus TFA in ACS patients undergoing complex PCI in the Minimizing Adverse Haemorrhagic Events by TRansradial Access Site and Systemic Implementation of angioX (MATRIX)-Access trial1.

Polymer-based versus polymer-free stents in high bleeding risk patients: final 2-year results from Onyx ONE

08 Jun 2022

The results of this study show that at 2-year follow-up HBR patients undergoing PCI with a polymer-based zotarolimus-eluting stent & 1-month DAPT had similar outcomes in terms of both safety & efficacy to those with a polymer-free biolimus A9-coated stent.

MIRACLE 2 score and SCAI grade to identify patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest for immediate coronary angiography

30 May 2022

The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the impact of performing immediate CAG post-OHCA with stratification of predicted neurologic injury and cardiogenic shock on arrival to a center.

Simplifying complex coronary interventions by adopting angiography-based physiology and a healing-targeted DES

19 May 2022 – From EuroPCR 2022

Consult this session to learn how to apply angio-based physiology to optimise patient selection for PCI, to discuss the impact of a healing-targeted DES on outcomes and DAPT duration, as well as to learn about the HT Supreme DES implantations in the (ongoing) QFR-guided, PIONEER IV trial.

PCI in acute coronary syndrome: when do we need assist device?

19 May 2022 – From EuroPCR 2022

Take the case of a 70-year-old-patient suffering obesity, DM, HTN, HLD, who presented with an anterior STEMI and shock, or the one of a 74-year-old woman with ACS and a very low ejection fraction, and get to understand when assist devices can be used.
