Protect the head to head trial: Randomized comparison of emboliner embolic protection catheter vs. sentinel cerebral protection system during transcatheter aortic valve replacement
Reported from ACC.26
Alex Sticchi interviews Adam B. Greenbaum on the PROTECT head-to-head trial, comparing the new full-body Emboliner device with the first-generation Sentinel during TAVR, as presented at ACC.26 in New Orleans.
In ~250 patients per group, Emboliner captured about three times more debris and had higher technical success, while both devices showed similar 30-day outcomes for death, stroke, or vascular complications and stroke rates. Early stroke rates and safety outcomes were comparable, highlighting improved procedural performance without a clear reduction in clinical stroke incidence.
