ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)

Find all the latest content on STEMI published on this website.

Treating STEMI brings into play a series of clinical and organizational protocols in constant evolution. Today, patients presenting with STEMI are best treated by early reperfusion strategies of which primary PCI is the preferred method. Keep up-to-date on the role of adjunctive pharmacotherapy, advances in imaging techniques and the use of invasive imaging and functional assessment. Tools, devices and techniques as well as complications, such as the different types of vascular access or bleeding risk can be found here as well…

Impact of alirocumab on plaque regression and haemodynamics of non-culprit arteries in patients with acute myocardial infarction: a prespecified substudy of the PACMAN-AMI trial

12 Jul 2023

This is a trial aiming to assess QFR and 3D-QCA DS% of all the non-infarct related arteries (IRA) with 3D-QCA DS% in all patients presenting with STEMI/NSTEMI and undergoing coronary angiography.

Infarct‐related artery as a donor of collaterals in ST‐segment–elevation myocardial infarction with concomitant chronic total occlusion: challenge of the double‐jeopardy thesis

30 May 2023

This study challenges the double-jeopardy assumption as the main cause of adverse outcome in STEMI with non-IRA CTO, as a collateral origin distal from the acute IRA occlusion was associated with a significantly better prognosis than with a proximal origin.

When to use drug coated balloons in de novo lesions?

What areas are most subject to drug-coated balloon angioplasty in de novo lesions? Fernando Alfonso and Robert Byrne provide some answers in this interview, in which they list the scenarios in which this technology appears attractive.

Small vessel disease, diffuse disease, STEMI, side-branches and patients at high-bleeding risk are...

What is the best contemporary interventional management of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest?

17 May 2023 – From EuroPCR 2023

Thomas Keeble and Marko Noc tackle the tricky question of how to deal with a patient with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

While STEMI patients should almost invariably go directly to the cathlab, the situation seems less clear-cut for non-ST-elevation patients, for whom a genuinely personalized approach needs to be proposed.

Study...
