PCR Planet: interventional cardiology in the context of COVID-19 in Argentina and the USA

Interventional Cardiologists Adolfo Ferrero, Córdoba, Argentina, and Juan Granada, New York, USA, discuss the challenges of practicing cardiology in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with Bernard Prendergast.

In Argentina they are at an early stage in the epidemic and the number of cases is increasing quickly. Staff are under a lot of stress because they are lacking the necessary material to work in these conditions.

In New York, although the peak has passed, all elective cases are cancelled and many physicians are still mobilised in the ICU. They are now in the phase of developing a strategy to restart regular cases.

Key message: having a very strict lockdown policy early on seems to be highly efficient. On a positive note, this crisis is also an opportunity to rethink medical education and has proven that digital tools are decisive in this regard.
