PCR Planet: interventional cardiology in the context of COVID-19 in Australia and Malaysia

Interventional Cardiologists Mohd Ali Rosli, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Andrew Ong, Sydney, Australia, discuss the challenges of practicing cardiology in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with William Wijns.

  • In Sidney, the situation is under control so they are able to do a large number of primary PCIs. As of April, they did not have to treat COVID-19 positive STEMI patients.
They are also doing several emergency simulations about how they would treat these patients and assess the time it would take.
  • In Mohd Ali Rosli's clinic they noticed a sifnificant drop in cardiovascular cases. At first, in order to protect their staff, they chose to limit electives cases as much as possible.
However now that they have more knowledge about the virus they are doing more and more primary PCIs.

On the bright side, according to them this crisis has reinforced staff communication and teamwork.
