PCR Planet: interventional cardiology in the context of COVID-19 in France and Mexico

Interventional Cardiologists Antoinette Neylon, Jacques Cartier’s Hospital, Massy - France and Jose Luis Leiva Pons, Dr. Morones’ Central Hospital, San Luis Potosi - Mexico, discuss the challenges of practicing cardiology in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with William Wijns.

France deconfined on May 11 which means physicians can resume their regular activites in the hospital. They are now able to programme elective procedures which hadn't been possible since March. In the cardiology department, they witnessed many cases of acute myocarditis among COVID-19 patients.

In San Luis Potosi, Mexico, the number of COVID-19 cases is stable. They are still able to do primary PCI for acute MI but no elective cases. In Mexico City however, the situation is more dramatic. Hospitals and clinics are more packed with COVID-19 cases.

Key message: this pandemic shows that in time of crisis most people prove to be generous and united, with many physicians volunteering to help!
