PCR Planet: interventional cardiology in the context of COVID-19 in India and China

In this video, Bernard Prendergast interviews Ashok Seth, New Delhi, India, and Mao Chen, Chengdu, China. They look back and reflect on the different phases of the pandemic and the effect on their practice.

China

In China, at the beginning of the epidemic they had to stop all PCI elective procedures. According to Mao Chen the key elements of success are:

  • The organisation of the team
  • The protection of medical staff: it is important to ensure their own safety so they can protect their patients in return.

As of April, they are back to their regular schedule in the cardiology department.

India

In India, altough they are still at an early stage in the epidemic, the country is on an nationwide lockdown.
They are taking advantage of their advance in the curve to prepare for the crisis by increasing the PPE stocks and organising the hospitals for example.
