Lessons learned to pave the way for future-proof strategies in TAVI
Sponsored by Medtronic
Summary
This EuroPCR 2026 session focuses on how current experience in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) can be translated into more durable strategies for the future, particularly in patients with bicuspid aortic valve disease.
It provides a comprehensive overview of anatomical, clinical, and procedural considerations in this challenging population. Through structured patient evaluation and advanced CT-based imaging, it outlines a systematic approach to feasibility assessment, sizing, and procedural planning. Live case discussions further illustrate operator strategy in bicuspid anatomy, including key decision-making around pre- and post-dilatation and the management of valve underexpansion.
The session also reviews contemporary clinical evidence on long-term outcomes and valve durability across current transcatheter heart valve platforms, with a particular focus on expanding indications toward younger, low-risk patients and the central role of the Heart Team in this evolving landscape.
Learning Objectives
- To gain a comprehensive understanding of the key anatomical, procedural, and clinical considerations for performing TAVI in patients with a bicuspid aortic valve
- To develop a structured approach to evaluating feasibility and procedural planning for TAVI in the treatment of bicuspid aortic stenosis, including patient selection and imaging assessment
- To review and interpret the latest clinical evidence on long-term outcomes and valve durability across contemporary transcatheter heart valve platforms
