Pioneers in coronary angioplasty

Meet some of the first generation of pioneers that have inspired many thousands of interventionalists and learn more about the many obstacles they were obliged to  along their journey.

There was a time when we believed cardiac surgery would be impossible. Indeed, we thought that touching the heart of an animal would lead to ventricular fibrillation. Moreover, we were convinced that the introduction of a catheter into the human heart would be fatal. To imagine that one day we would be able to treat coronary arteries from the “inside” was considered an unreasonable and nonviable option. It took a long time for this crazy idea to become reality. There were challenges to over-come every step of the way. In an effort to go back in time, we invite you to relive this exciting adventure, following along the paths of the pioneers.
