Rivaroxaban monotherapy in patients with atrial fibrillation after coronary stenting: insights from the AFIRE trial

08 Nov 2021

In this prespecified subgroup analysis of the AFIRE trial, the authors report the outcomes of rivaroxaban monotherapy compared to rivaroxaban and an antiplatelet agent in patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent coronary stenting > 1 year prior to enrolment.

Fractional flow reserve to guide treatment of patients with multivessel coronary artery disease - the FUTURE trial

05 Nov 2021

The FUTURE Trial is a prospective randomised, multicentre, open label superiority trial comparing an FFR guided treatment strategy to traditional angiography guided treatment strategy on clinical outcomes in an all-comer population with multivessel coronary artery disease.

Impact of intravascular ultrasound on long-term clinical outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction

04 Nov 2021

There are limited data evaluating long-term outcomes of IVUS use in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The aim of this study was to examine the impact of IVUS-guided PCI on long-term clinical outcomes in patients with AMI.

Ticagrelor monotherapy in patients at high bleeding risk undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: TWILIGHT-HBR

28 Oct 2021

To further investigate the treatment effects of ticagrelor monotherapy compared with ticagrelor plus aspirin in a contemporary HBR population, a pre-specified analysis of the TWILIGHT trial, TWILIGHT-HBR, was conducted by using the Academic Research Consortium (ARC) criteria for HBR.

ACTIVATION (percutAneous Coronary inTervention prIor to transcatheter aortic VAlve implantaTION): a randomized clinical trial

19 Oct 2021

In conducting the ACTIVATION trial, Redwood and colleagues seek to complement the existing literature with high-level evidence on whether percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) prior to TAVR is non-inferior to conservative (no PCI) management.

Percutaneous myocardial revascularization in late-presenting patients with STEMI

30 Sep 2021

Through this registry-based analysis, the authors sought to assess short and long-term outcomes of revascularisation in a latecomer STEMI population presenting between 12 to 48 hours of symptom onset.

Placebo-controlled efficacy of percutaneous coronary intervention for focal and diffuse patterns of stable coronary artery disease

29 Oct 2021

According to the updated international revascularization guidelines, fractional flow reserve (FFR) and instantaneous wave-free period ratio (iFR) are proposed to dichotomize decision-making for ischemia detection in guiding percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of intermediate coronary stenosis.

Mechanical thrombectomy with retrievable stents and aspiration catheters for acute ischaemic stroke: a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials

29 Sep 2021

The current meta-analysis highlights that mechanical thrombectomy with retrievable stents or aspiration catheters reduced disability and all-cause mortality at 90 days in acute anterior circulation ischaemic stroke.

Valve-in-valve transcatheter aortic valve implantation versus repeat surgical aortic valve replacement in patients with a failed aortic bioprosthesis

24 Sep 2021

Structural valve deterioration remains the Achilles heel of both SAVR and TAVI. Since indications for TAVI have expanded to low-risk patients in 2019, this clinical scenario poses a significant conundrum for physicians and surgeons, as the number of patients undergoing aortic valve interventions continues to grow...
