Aspirin vs Clopidogrel for chronic maintenance monotherapy after percutaneous coronary intervention: the HOST-EXAM extended study

08 Nov 2022

The HOST-EXAM trial1 was a prospective, randomised, open-label trial investigating clopidogrel monotherapy versus aspirin therapy in patients undergoing PCI with DES who had completed 6-18 months of DAPT with no ischaemic or bleeding complications. At 24 months follow-up, clopidogrel monotherapy significantly reduced the risk of the...

Optical coherence tomography fractional flow reserve and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome

18 Oct 2022

Optical Coherence Tomography fractional flow reserve (OCT-FFR) has been shown to correlate well with wire-based FFR; however, clinical outcomes based on OCT-FFR are not well defined. In this retrospective study, the authors sought to investigate the relationship between OCT-FFR and long-term clinical outcomes in ACS.

Durable polymer vs. biodegradable polymer DES in patients with ACS undergoing complex PCI: A post hoc analysis of the HOST-REDUCE-POLYTECH-ACS trial

30 Aug 2022

The HOST-REDUCE-POLYTECH-ACS trial was a randomised, parallel-group multicentre trial with a 2x2 factorial design testing two independent hypotheses, one of which was the non-inferiority of durable polymer drug-eluting stents (DP-DES) to biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stents (BP-DES) in patients with ACS. In this post-hoc analysis, the authors...

Timing and predictors of definite stent thrombosis in comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention and therapeutic hypothermia (ST-OHCA study)

09 Aug 2022

The ST-OHCA study is a single centre prospective study investigating the incidence, timing and predictors of definite stent thrombosis in comatose survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) undergoing immediate PCI and therapeutic hypothermia.

Radial versus femoral access in ACS patients undergoing complex PCI is associated with consistent bleeding benefit and no excess of risk

18 Jul 2022

In this paper, the authors investigated the comparative efficacy and safety of TRA versus TFA in ACS patients undergoing complex PCI in the Minimizing Adverse Haemorrhagic Events by TRansradial Access Site and Systemic Implementation of angioX (MATRIX)-Access trial1.

Polymer-based versus polymer-free stents in high bleeding risk patients: final 2-year results from Onyx ONE

08 Jun 2022

The results of this study show that at 2-year follow-up HBR patients undergoing PCI with a polymer-based zotarolimus-eluting stent & 1-month DAPT had similar outcomes in terms of both safety & efficacy to those with a polymer-free biolimus A9-coated stent.

MIRACLE 2 score and SCAI grade to identify patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest for immediate coronary angiography

30 May 2022

The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the impact of performing immediate CAG post-OHCA with stratification of predicted neurologic injury and cardiogenic shock on arrival to a center.

EROSION III: a multicenter RCT of OCT-guided reperfusion in STEMI with early infarct artery patency

19 Apr 2022

This is an interesting study showing that in patients with STEMI with early infarct artery patency, OCT guidance compared with angiographic guidance of reperfusion was associated with less stent implantation during primary PCI.

Risk of cardiovascular hospital admission after exposure to fine particulate pollution

23 Feb 2022

This current study explored the effect of heavy particle pollution on total cardiovascular admissions, whilst also looking at risk for specific cardiovascular diagnoses, such as angina, myocardial infarction, and ischaemic stroke.
