Distal vs conventional radial access for coronary angiography and/or intervention: a meta-analysis of randomized trials

30 Nov 2022

The present systematic review and meta-analysis by Ferrante et al aimed to provide a comprehensive quantitative analysis of the effects of DRA vs TRA, by pooling data from randomised controlled trials (RCT) comparing these two access sites when used for coronary angiography and/or percutaneous coronary intervention...

2-year outcomes of angiographic quantitative flow ratio-guided coronary interventions

23 Nov 2022

FAVOR-III China was an investigator-initiated, multicentre, randomised, blinded, sham-controlled trial comparing clinical outcomes of QFR versus angiography-guided strategies for the treatment of non-critical lesions in patients with stable or unstable angina, or MI, at least 72 hours prior to screening. The one-year results showed improved clinical...

Aspirin vs Clopidogrel for chronic maintenance monotherapy after percutaneous coronary intervention: the HOST-EXAM extended study

08 Nov 2022

The HOST-EXAM trial1 was a prospective, randomised, open-label trial investigating clopidogrel monotherapy versus aspirin therapy in patients undergoing PCI with DES who had completed 6-18 months of DAPT with no ischaemic or bleeding complications. At 24 months follow-up, clopidogrel monotherapy significantly reduced the risk of the...

Balloon- vs self-expanding valve systems for failed small surgical aortic valve bioprostheses

26 Oct 2022

Edoardo provides us with the cardiac surgeon's point of view!

The present trial aimed to clarify the hemodynamic results between balloon-expandable valve (BEV) (SAPIEN 3 ULTRA - Edwards) and self-expandable valve (SEV) (EVOLUT R/Pro/Pro+ - Medtronic) in case of dysfunctional small-sized surgical bio-prosthesis.

A large, prospective, multicentre study of left main PCI using a latest-generation zotarolimus-eluting stent: the ROLEX study

24 Oct 2022

The purpose of the ROLEX Registry (Revascularization Of LEft main with resolute onyX) was to explore outcomes using a more contemporary drug eluting stent platform which is more suitable for LM PCI.

Prediction of death or HF hospitalization in patients with severe FMR: the COAPT risk score

19 Oct 2022

The new analysis from the COAPT trial indicated that lower secondary mitral regurgitation by TEER was strongly associated with reduced heart failure hospitalization, all-cause mortality, and improved quality of life as compared with a higher degree of residual MR.

Optical coherence tomography fractional flow reserve and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome

18 Oct 2022

Optical Coherence Tomography fractional flow reserve (OCT-FFR) has been shown to correlate well with wire-based FFR; however, clinical outcomes based on OCT-FFR are not well defined. In this retrospective study, the authors sought to investigate the relationship between OCT-FFR and long-term clinical outcomes in ACS.

Acute kidney injury following tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair

17 Oct 2022

Although tricuspid regurgitation has for a long time been “the forgotten valve”, recently there has been a rising awareness of the disease with several important studies investigating its pathophysiology and treatment.
